For 10 years now, Junior High has been the place queer creatives are relying on in Southern California to find community camaraderie, a new favorite artist, and a sense of belonging. Through the devastating election in 2016, the life-altering pandemic lockdown in 2020, the destructive wildfires in 2025, and continued threats to the sanctity of queer life, Junior High has remained a beacon of hope.
-
Keeping the space alive depends on our community. If Junior High has ever made you feel welcome, seen, or connected, we need your support to ensure it remains open for the rest of the year — and for years to come.
From July 1-August 31, our goal is to raise $5,500 in monthly memberships — our monthly rent — so we can continue to provide a physical solution to the loneliness epidemic that plagues our hyper-online generation.
Rent is our single largest expense every month. When we continually worry about an eviction notice, it makes it harder for us to focus on what matters the most: opportunities to gather around art and artists that come at little to no cost to the organizers or our community at large.
-
If you can’t commit to a monthly donation, you can still help sustain Junior High by donating to our Chair-A-Thon.
The last time we bought new chairs was in the Spring of 2021 — when we moved into the home base in Glendale that you know and love. Those 100 shiny red chairs have slowly dwindled into the dented and bruised chairs currently seating our community throughout our daily programs.
You can adopt a chair and help Junior High seat all of our attendees. By adopting a chair, Junior High can advertise your business, immortalize your love for your partner, or reserve a seat just for you at each of our daily events.
-
Financial accessibility for low-income, LGBTQ, BIPOC, and artists with intersecting barriers has been at the core of Junior High’s mission since day one. Today, we still prioritize hosting free and low-cost gatherings that you can join daily.
Following cuts to arts and humanities grants, we have become increasingly reliant on donated labor. This means we’re holding the same events but paying staff, organizers, and facilitators a fraction of the cost for their expertise, if at all. For this reason we are often operating at a loss and at this point it has become unsustainable to operate like this.
The only way Junior High can continue to exist is if we continue to monetarily support our staff of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC artists that rely on us — and ultimately expand our team to accommodate the growing needs of this radical, liberation-minded, artist-centered community.

BRANDED ON BRAND | $10,000/mo is our monthly rent AND even more! With rent covered, we will give our extremely hardworking part-time staff ANOTHER raise — lets turn that that 2 into $3/hr. PLUS our leadership team — Executive Director Eden Hain, Lead Curator Chelsie Rivera, Staff Manager Zee Zaldana, and Board President Sam Miller — will get a permanent tattoo designed by a former Junior High contributing artist tattooed somewhere everyone can see voted by YOU. Will they have to get one of Junior High’s iconic red chairs? Will they permanently declare “No, we’re not a school” since it’s something we say basically daily. We don’t know yet! But with your support we’re happy to devote ourselves to this queer little art space.
