FILM | $5 | ALL AGES | Join Junior High and filmmaker Jenny Murray for a screening of the “Las Sandinistas” and a discussion on the lessons of the Nicaraguan revolution and the legacy of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (Spanish: Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional, FSLN). In the documentary, Murray focuses on the contributions of the women who fought in the FSLN in the Nicaraguan Revolution. Through interviews and the use of archival footage, Murray gives an intimate look into the social revolution while also highlighting the patriarchal constructs female fighters were made to face. Since Daniel Ortega was swept out of office in 1990 and subsequently returned to power in 2006, the FSLN has become a force of repression in Nicaragua.
