Costumed Figure Drawing
WORKSHOP | $15 | ALL AGES | OOH CHILD, THINGS ARE GONNA BE EASIER - STARLORDS BACK IN TOWN! Join us and cosplayer Michael Bottcher in a vibe-packed costumed figure drawing this May 30th for some classic jams, comedic posing, and the best figure drawing challenges in town. "Legendaries: Good Bai Sun" Graphic Novel Reading and Release Party
READING | $5 | 18+ | Join for a special celebration and reading of Christine LêSantos' debut graphic novel "Legendaries: Good Bai Sun"! Featuring original live score by Aria Bizares. With opening comic readings by special guests Mark Galez and Miranda Harmon!
"Legendaries: Good Bai Sun": After the loss of her dad, Maggie navigates the process of grieving with her best friends and community. In a comedic and heartfelt journey, she learns about the ways in which the different cultures of her neighborhood honor those that have passed on. A special story celebrating all the ways in which we connect to one another.

Soft Power Sewing Circle | June
COMMUNITY | FREE | ALL AGES | Come steetch or just beetch, we will help you out either way! The purpose of this group is to develop skills, make connections, engage with inner and outer work, and do some good ol’ fashioned sewing. Soft Power's sewing circle will meet on the first Sunday of every month at Junior High and we welcome all people of all skill levels.
Soft Power was created in 2023 by artist and arts worker Jane O'Neill to bring grounding and tactile care to social action work in public and private spaces.

Art Club Presents | DIY Nite on First Sundays
COMMUNITY | $15 | ALL AGES | Join us for yet another DIY NITE on First Sundays from Art Club! You’re encouraged to craft with a friend or just zone out listening to some chill music. Collage supplies will always be provided PLUS new specialty crafts are introduced each month!
This month we are having an UPCYCLING EXTRAVAGANZA- transform old clothes and fabric scraps into a new wardrobe! DIY clothing customizing with sewing kits provided, ribbon, appliques, buttons, markers, etc. Also introducing clothing collaging! Cut up and create new designs from shirts with words and designs. Bring blank/plain clothing to screen print on with designs by our resident screen printer and educator- Matthew Saldivar. Participate in our clothing swap by bringing clothing donations (max 5 items donation limit) and leaving with new clothes. Upgrade your look, go crazy, design your own glam!!!!
Portrait Painting Workshop | Capture the Soul in Oils with Artskool
WORKSHOP | $40 | ALL AGES | Join us for a very special evening to create your very own portraiture masterpiece using oil paints. We’ll combine the technical aspect of oil painting with the artistic goal of capturing the essence of our subject. Beginner and all levels friendly.
You’ll learn how to prep your canvas, sketch accurate proportions, mix colors, and the step by step process of bringing your painting to life. Tanya will be demoing and instructing every step of the way. You won’t want to miss this one!

Clay Date! Clay Flutes with Ollin Gonzalez
WORKSHOP | $60 | ALL AGES | Join this 3 hour clay workshop led by Ollin Gonzales of Pot Studio Echo Park. Learn how to make and play your own wind instrument! The tradition of Ocarina (clay flute) making was passed down to Ollin by his father as a means of continuing indigenous tradition, and a connection to culture. In this class attendees will be hand crafting fully functional clay flutes.

Hymnal of a Burned Girl | Art Opening
GALLERY | $5-10 SUGGESTED DONATION | ALL AGES | Join us for the opening of D.R.O’s solo exhibition. Hymnal to the Burned Girl is a body of work that serves as a protection spell. Through the combination of ceramics, performance, murals, and video, the artist, Dionysus Rosalie Ortiz, creates a temple space meant for shelter, for worship, and for celebration of the mythical past self. All of the works together reflect on the person who was versus the person who is, as well as the space between those two and what comes afterwards.
D.R.O. (She/Her) is an artist, filmmaker, and educator. Originally from the east coast, she’s now based in Tongva Territory in “Los Angeles”. D.R.O. makes works using all types of mediums, from filmmaking to puppetry to ceramics, mostly as a way to explore representations of mental health, transness, and the self. She received her MFA in Filmmaking from UCF and currently works at POT Studio LA.

Tattooing for Beginners with Stabalisim | June
WORKSHOP | $250 // $300 | 18+ | Ever wanted to learn the art of tattooing? Junior High resident artist JJ wants to show you the ropes! In this workshop we’re disrupting abusive tattoo apprenticeship traditions and breaking down the culture of gatekeeping in tattooing by allowing interested artists to experiment on fake skin.
When you purchase a ticket all supplies are included, you get to keep stencil with your designs, your fake skin, and a few more single use items! Pay $250 if you have your own tattoo machine, pay $300 if you want to borrow a machine for the workshop.
Class prep: Bring a few (2-5) designs that you drew or found online that you want to tattoo at the class. Bring the designs on printer paper, your phone/iPad, or whatever you have access to! We start by going over the drawing and stencil process then JJ will demonstrate setting up a tattoo machine and tattooing on fake skin. JJ will have a station for each attendee and will guide you through the whole tattooing process. Hopefully you’ll be able to fill your whole sheet of fake skin!

GUEST ARTIST WORKSHOP | $40 | 18+ | Get crafty (and a little saucy) with us for this one-night ceramic adventure! Create your own set of three decorative tiles or coasters celebrating the beauty of vintage queer pinups, self-love, and sex-positive art. Join local artists Camila and Rachel in this fun surface design workshop!
NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED! Just bring your creative energy and maybe that cutie you've been wanting to craft with. Wear clothes you don't mind getting messy!
What We're Making:
Design your own set of three hanging tiles or coasters using various transfer techniques. Whether you're into vintage queer ads, classic pinups with a twist, or creating your own celebratory self-loving imagery, we'll help you bring your vision to clay! GUEST ARTIST WORKSHOP | $40 | ALL AGES | Come and decorate your own pre made cup with Jr Hi’s Exhibiting Artist, DRO! In her own practice DRO decorates her pottery with collages of ideas and themes. She uses everything from bits of poetry, to images of animals, to self portraits. In this class she will walk attendees through her process and guide them through decorating their own special cup!

Learn about plants native to southern California, how to care for them, and meet other cuties while helping sustain our very own Junior High garden!
Bring your own water bottle and snacks. All are welcome! Absolutely no experience necessary.
We also HIGHLY recommend hats + SPF to stay safe from the sun.
Maggie Smart-McCabe has experience working in climate appropriate gardens that prioritize native plants, regenerative gardening, and building soil health. They are passionate about increasing access to green spaces where people can get hands-on experience connecting to land and plants in their own community. Maggie loves gardening and learning in community spaces, and they are super excited to show plants some love with other queer folks at the Junior High Native Plant Garden!
Linnea Torres is a photographer and has been gardening for two years, after leaving the life of 35mm. A self-proclaimed master of container gardening, Linnea focuses on her tiny patio in her tiny space. Her tiny patio is home to edible annuals, perennial pollinators, veggies + fruits, the odd succulent, and cut flowers to gift to friends. Her focus has just shifted to growing art. Linnea is excited to share DIY tips for gardening as well as a deep appreciation for growing your own food. Let’s learn together y’all!

Tea Houz is a choose-your-own-adventure tea lounge dreamed up for our queer, trans, and BIPOC community to slow down and connect.
Think floor mats, cozy lighting, live plants, unlimited tea—including tea-inspired mocktails, and mellow house music to set the tone. Float between watercoloring, card games, journaling, and warm conversation—whatever your vibe, there’s space for you here.

POSTPONED First Aid Skills Building
WORKSHOP | $10 // $12 | ALL AGES | This Basic Life Support class will teach you what to do in case of a sudden bleeding emergency, what to do when someone is choking, and a Stop The Bleed demonstration. Learn how to apply a sling, triangle bandage, roller bandages, and when to use a tourniquet. There will also be a section devoted to using Narcan to reverse an opioid overdose.
In previous First Aid and CPR trainings, we haven’t been able to get in-depth into how to apply the skills, this training will focus on those practical lifesaving skills.

Tattooing for Beginners with Stabalisim | May
WORKSHOP | $250 // $300 | 18+ | Ever wanted to learn the art of tattooing? Junior High resident artist JJ wants to show you the ropes! In this workshop we’re disrupting abusive tattoo apprenticeship traditions and breaking down the culture of gatekeeping in tattooing by allowing interested artists to experiment on fake skin.
When you purchase a ticket all supplies are included, you get to keep stencil with your designs, your fake skin, and a few more single use items! Pay $250 if you have your own tattoo machine, pay $300 if you want to borrow a machine for the workshop.
Class prep: Bring a few (2-5) designs that you drew or found online that you want to tattoo at the class. Bring the designs on printer paper, your phone/iPad, or whatever you have access to! We start by going over the drawing and stencil process then JJ will demonstrate setting up a tattoo machine and tattooing on fake skin. JJ will have a station for each attendee and will guide you through the whole tattooing process. Hopefully you’ll be able to fill your whole sheet of fake skin!

Ass Camp
WORKOUT | $18 presale, $20 at door | ALL AGES + SKILL LEVELS | ASS CAMP is an all-inclusive 60 minute bootcamp group workout class led by Kat Matutina with focus on ass and abs, plus core and overall strength. Utilizing special resistance bands for the duration of the class, combined with plyometrics, toning balls, battle ropes and kettle bells. Soundtrack to class includes Jersey club, Baltimore club, dancehall and Afrobeats, R&B, Chicago house, booty bass, and rap. All bodies, genders, levels, and ages welcome! GALLERY | $5-10 SUGGESTED DONATION | ALL AGES |Join us for the opening of this Dream Print Exchange and Exhibition- “PICTURE THIS”. What do you picture? What do you dream of? Do you fantasize about manifestations of love? Do you spiral into the depths of existence and ponder the meanings of life? Whatever you picture- let's see!
We invite graphic artists, photographers, or anyone who can decorate a 4x6 piece of paper to participate in this Exhibition/Exchange! Visitors of the exhibition will be allowed trade their own 4x6 artwork with another on the wall. Paper will also be provided for artists to draw and exchange in real time. Each 4x6 print will be for sale for $5 each. The exchange will continue throughout the length of the exhibition.

This month we are SPILLING THE TEA- sip on different blends at our tea station! Make your own food-safe tea cup at our hand building with clay station. WORKSHOP | $25 | ALL AGES | Walk in at your leisure between 6-9pm for 2hr access to 2 lbs of clay and tools to make your own ceramic sculptures. Join either of our two resident clay artists Shea Smelser (@sheasmelser ) or Chelsie Rivera (@la_rosebud ), for loosely guided hand building practice. Option to pay $10 to fire your art work at the end of the 2hr session. Great for those who are looking for access to ceramics, clay friends, or sharpening your skill set! No experience necessary.
No reservations necessary to attend Clay Date. You are welcome to purchase your ticket ahead of time or at the door day-of the event.
If you opt to fire your work, you will receive an email once your pots have been bisque fired and are ready to pick up. You can pick up your pieces Monday/Tuesday or at any Clay Date. To glaze your work, purchase a Clay Date ticket to receive access to the glazes and for the last firing. Everyone will have up to three months to pick up/glaze their pots- after which we will have to dispose of them to make space for new class work!

Ass Camp
WORKOUT | $18 presale, $20 at door | ALL AGES + SKILL LEVELS | ASS CAMP is an all-inclusive 60 minute bootcamp group workout class led by Kat Matutina with focus on ass and abs, plus core and overall strength. Utilizing special resistance bands for the duration of the class, combined with plyometrics, toning balls, battle ropes and kettle bells. Soundtrack to class includes Jersey club, Baltimore club, dancehall and Afrobeats, R&B, Chicago house, booty bass, and rap. All bodies, genders, levels, and ages welcome! Complimentary organic pre-workout hydration station and post-workout plant-based smoothies.
Check-in for class starts at 7pm. Please bring your own yoga mat.
