Exhibition Opening | Catharsis by Clumsy World
GALLERY | $5-10 SUGGESTED DONATION | ALL AGES
CATHARSIS (noun) : the process of releasing, and thereby providing relief from, strong or repressed emotions
What does it mean to find catharsis? Some go to the cinema, others the gym, maybe a ceramic studio or the beach. No matter what avenue we take, it is imperative that every human find a way to process their emotions. For Genna BloomBecker, this comes through every aspect of her art practice ~ from creating intricate makeup looks to fusing glass and capturing her environment on film. Art and emotions are inextricably linked, and there is a poignancy that occurs when we let go of our fears and dive into the waters of being seen *exactly* as we are, complications, contradictions and all.
Since 2021, Genna BloomBecker has been sharing her artistry through the brand clumsy world. Creating fused glass jewelry in her home, combining it with her atmospheric imagery through printed materials and social media, the brand has allowed Genna to express herself in an authentic and heartfelt way. Popping up at markets in Los Angeles and the Bay Area has expanded the clumsy community, enveloping all who find themselves in the bright colors, fun shapes, and general positivity that Genna’s booth exudes.
In this exhibit, clumsy world comes to life through the viscerality of the physical gallery space. From film photography prints to upcycled, mixed media art pieces, fused glass treasures + more, Genna will explore the theme of catharsis through her uniquely multifaceted approach.
Genna BloomBecker is a multidisciplinary artist with creative exploration at her core. She has an intuition-led practice that spans the disciplines of film photography, fused glass jewelry design, upcycling, modeling, and creative collaboration. Genna is heavily inspired by color, texture, and environmental synchronicities; the grooves in a canyon wall, the way glass transforms through the fusing process, the magic of a double exposure photograph taken by two different people.
Genna’s work is grounded in the acknowledgment of nature’s wonder, the determination to bring positivity to the world, and the normalization and attention to mental health and healing throughout the artistic process. Her work is vivid and inviting, with a propensity towards the ethereal. Genna embraces experimental processes and will forever prefer the magic of analog techniques over the often overwhelming possibilities of technology. She lives with her wife and three cats on Chumash, Tongva + Kizh land (AKA Los Angeles).

Writing the Women We Were Warned About: Monstrous Feminine and Superstition in Poetry
WORKSHOP | $25 | 18+ | Superstitions shape the way we learn about danger, identity, and belonging, but they also tell us who we’re allowed to be. In this generative poetry workshop, we’ll explore the stories and sayings we grew up with: from playful warnings to cultural myths meant to guide or socially condition us. We’ll focus on Latin American monstrous women like La Siguanaba and La Ciguapa, specifically on their folklore and their defiance of gender expectations. What happens when you become the woman you’ve been warned about?
Through close readings and discussion of poems by Elizabeth Acevedo, Ashley August, and Leticia Hernández Linares, we’ll examine how poets reclaim superstition and myth as sources of power, creativity, and cultural memory.
Participants will be guided through writing prompts that reimagine or retell a superstition, myth, or warning from their own background. All levels, identities, and cultural traditions are welcome!
About the facilitator: Ariadne Makridakis Arroyo (she/they) is a Los Angeles-based poet, writer, and femenista of Greek and Guatemalan descent. Their work has been featured in Stellium Literary Magazine, Stonecoast Review, Latin@ Literatures, and Tasteful Rude, and she was awarded the 2025 LGBTQIA+ residency fellowship with The Sundress Academy for the Arts.
