Sometimes our friends are busy, but it’s okay, because in this workshop, we will be making our own little friend to bring with us everywhere, to remind us that we are safe, right here, right now, in the present, and even if we aren’t, we can hold them to remind us a sense of peace and joy that can never be robbed from our inner world, because we deserve it! Learn basic handbuilding and decorating techniques from Rachael, local ceramic artist and studio tech from the Green and Bisque Clayhouse of Pasadena.

Great for those who are looking for access to ceramics, clay friends, or sharpening your skill set! No experience necessary. No reservations necessary to attend Clay Date. You are welcome to purchase your ticket ahead of time or at the door day-of the event.

Jessica Gerhardt and D. Marin Perez: Together for CHIRLA

MUSIC | $25 | ALL AGES | MASK MANDATORY | Jessica Gerhardt and D. Marin Perez are joining their voices together to support CHIRLA, an organization that defends the rights of immigrants, with an evening of music rooted in spirituality and liberation.

Jessica Gerhardt (she/her) is a queer, spiritual indie-folk singer-songwriter with a heart for justice and solidarity with those on the margins. She draws inspiration from her Catholic and Jewish roots and lays claim to them in her debut full length record Alight Beyond the Sea. The album centers around themes in Psalm 139 - God's presence in grief and joy, darkness and light, and knowing oneself deeply and authentically. She will celebrate the first anniversary of the record's release with this concert.

For Cuban-American musician D. Marin Perez, songwriting becomes a place of real residence — to hide and be known, to seek and knock. Tutored by 60s rock and religious hymns from an early age, songwriting became a place to integrate an ever-evolving sense of family, religion, politics (the negotiations of our shared life together), belonging, love, and loss. These themes persist in his writing as a faith-rooted community organizer. DMP lives in Los Angeles, California.

Pitch Please: Freelance Journalism 101

WORKSHOP | $25 | ALL AGES | Ever been nosy for free? Learn how to get paid for it!

In this workshop, journalist Ari Saperstein will walk you through the basics of freelance journalism from finding story ideas to pitching editors to actually reporting and writing your piece.

No experience necessary, just a curiosity for real people and true stories. You’ll leave with a working pitch and next steps for editors & outlets to pitch.

This is a crash course in freelance journalism: how to shape an idea, pitch it, report it, and get your work out into the world. Whether you want to write about your community, your obsession, or the injustice that’s making you mad, this space is for you.

Led by Ari Saperstein (he/him), a queer multimedia journalist who’s worked with This American Life, The New York Times, and LAist. This workshop is open to anyone. No gatekeeping. No jargon. Just good stories.

(NOTE: If you sign-up, we’ll send you a tiny pre-workshop vibe check (aka 15 mins of light prep) to get your gears turning ❤️)

Forged in Fire | Held in Love Book Release

READING | $10 // $20 // $30 | ALL AGES | Join us in celebrating the release of Forged in Fire | Held in Love — a collection born from the ashes of injustice and shaped by the warmth of community. This is more than a book launch; it’s a gathering space for anyone who’s ever been scorched by life’s trials and found their way to joy. Featuring a powerful art installation on beauty through pain, live performances by NOMAD the Poet, and opening words from Camari Hawkins of Mama's Kitchen Press.

Book description: Forged in Fire | Held in Love is a transformative poetry collection that provides readers with a blueprint and firsthand account of what healing truly looks and feels like, resonating with anyone who is navigating their own healing journey. Specifically tailored for women, BIPOC individuals, the LGBTQIA+ community, people with disabilities, and trauma survivors, Forged in Fire | Held in Love fearlessly addresses a wide spectrum of traumas that include generational, familial, systemic, childhood, sexual, and racial experiences. It serves as a war cry for liberation, speaking directly to burdened souls, inquisitive minds, generational cycle breakers, and those brave enough to embark on unconventional paths.

Pitch Please: Freelance Journalism 101

WORKSHOP | $15 | ALL AGES | Ever been nosy for free?
