This special set of events is more than just film screenings; it also creates space to have an honest discussion about the media created to represent US and OUR realities. Come watch, review, and talk honestly about what these films did well and how we can continue moving forward with excellent queer media!
About the hosts:
The Queer 26 (Q26) is a 501(c)3 certified media arts non-profit supporting QTBIPOC creatives. Through our workshops, events, and media projects, we help our communities’ thrive while pursuing their dreams. Q26 is based in Los Angeles but has worked with creatives from throughout the nation. Alongside our programs, we also develop short films celebrating queer joy and diverse points of view.
Cuties is a Black & queer-owned community space providing resources and events, both virtually and in-person, to the LGBTQIA+ community. Based on Los Angeles, CA, Cuties began as a coffee shop and safe space focused on providing queer community and a place to gather that wasn't centered around alcohol.
About the short film:
Unique Dowtin is a filmmaker from the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. She has served as a writer, director, producer, editor, and cameraman for nearly a decade. During that time, she has produced and directed several viral videos, commercials, and a music video. She has also served as a script supervisor on more than 20 short films and features including 2015’s A Year and Change and 2017’s Coffin 2. She now resides in Ventura, California.
Summer is found footage film that excavates nostalgia, memory, and dreams.
