⤏ A PLAYLIST FOR AUTUMNAL SOLITUDE
⤏ CURATED BY PUCK
"I'm letting go what wasn't true, but if we keep on loving what's left, that's the same abuse."
— PUCK “Best Friend”
What is the theme of your playlist?
My playlist is cathartic; the idea is for it to be on in your living room while you get really stoned and cook yourself pasta and enjoy your own company. It's not a particular theme other than feeling thoroughly. This Autumn, I've been going through a big transformation, touring my memories, composting grief, creating big joy. It's for that.
How did you select these songs?
I've been making playlist diaries each season. I label them as "Fall 2022" and add songs as I gravitate towards them. These are some new discoveries and old loves I've been listening to as the night comes earlier.
What’s the most underrated song/band/artist out there right now?
I love Enumclaw so much. They just dropped their debut album. I went to their in-store performance at Easy Street Records in Seattle, and it was so beautiful to see these grungers in their 50s and 60s beaming at all of these 20 and 30 year olds moshing. Growing up in Washington, grunge and indie and diy culture were always there, kind of as an ideology, so hearing a new band come out of that lineage and do it from the heart is incredible. It's like a home cooked meal to me.
What’s one song everyone needs to listen to?
"Trapped" by Puck (me!!! I'm hella proud of myself!!)
Which three artists would you invite to a party?
This is so hard because there's some people I'd want to pick their brain, some I'd want to eat edibles with, and some I'd want to make out with. Definitely a musician from the 70s. It would be really cool to invite an ancient artist who made cave paintings or monoliths or something along those lines because I have hella questions.
If you could collab with any musician, who would it be?
I want to write a song with Joni.
If you could feature any song in a movie or TV show, which song would it be and what movie/TV show?
I grew up on The OC soundtrack and discovered a lot of bands that way, so it would be a huge honor to be featured in a modern teen TV drama or high school movie. My song "Best Friend" sounds like a grunge lullaby - it's catchy, but it's about leaving an abusive relationship. I'd want that protective knowledge to get into people's subconscious.
You can only listen to one album for the rest of your life. What would it be?
A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
What’s your most recently played song?
A podcast actually: I listened to the "Sustaining Love" episode of Autumn & adrienne maree brown's How To Survive The End Of The World this morning.
What do you think Rihanna’s going to name her baby?
It would be hella cool if she named them Robyn. Matrilinealism <3
