WORKSHOP | $15 | ALL AGES | Join us for a queer Armenian community clay night hosted by Sooki Studio and GALAS LGBTQ+ Armenian Society. This is a workshop to meet and connect with other queer Armenians while playing with clay in a playful low stakes learning environment grounded in exploration and letting go of expectations.
Participants will learn fundamental techniques in ceramics and are welcome to make anything they'd like such as sculptural & abstract forms or nothing at all. No experience is necessary, this workshop will be suited to those who are curious in working with clay for the first time and those with various levels of experience who would like to create in a communal space.
All materials are included and participants can build as many pieces as they'd like. We will be working with air dry clay and all pieces can be taken home at the end of the workshop.
Sooki Studio is part making space, part educational space run by Armenian artist & educator, Natalia Ira Sookias. Her ceramics are a vehicle to both connect with her ancestors and create good quality goods for her community. Sooki Studio aims to provide access to ceramics as a means to support mental wellness and foster community.
GALAS LGBTQ+ Armenian Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that has been the leading voice in advancing equality for LGBTQ+ Armenians worldwide since 1998. GALAS was formed in Los Angeles by a group of LGBTQ+ Armenians who were looking for friendship, support, and a sense of belonging within the community. GALAS provides community and vital resources for our members, such as educational conferences and workshops, access to counseling, parent support groups, scholarships, and so much more.
