Queer Cartoons: A Celebration of LGBTQIA+ Animation and Its Creators

  • Junior High, Incorporated 603 South Brand Boulevard Glendale, CA, 91204 United States (map)

COMMUNITY | $10-20 | 18+ | Queer Cartoons: A Celebration of LGBTQIA+ Animation and Its Creators is an event highlighting the rich Queer history and presence in the field of animation. Through a lecture and gallery show, attendees will learn about the on and off screen representation in animation from the 1930s to our modern media landscape.

The lecture portion of the event chronicles the historical connections in animation between the Queer community, gender bias, race and workers’ rights, while the exhibition highlights contemporary LGBTQIA+ animation workers and the shows that they’re working on.

The gallery portion includes animation art such as stills from films, character designs, storyboards and other production materials. Attendees will leave the event having a greater understanding of the history of animation, significance of representation in contemporary content, and the work that animation workers continue to fight for as some studios bend to the will of the Trump administration.

Tickets are available through Circa, and can be purchased HERE.

COVID-19 vaccinations are highly recommended to attend events at Junior High. Learn more here.

This event will be indoors.
