ART OPENING | $5 SUGGESTED DONATION | ALL AGES | “A cool art place” - Eden Hain, 2022

Nova Community Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts education center located in Atwater Village, Los Angeles. SUPERNOVA is an exhibition showcasing 40+ pieces by the students of their Risograph Printing classes from 2021-2022. Featured pieces were either printed during class, or afterwards using the techniques learned in class.

Risograph is a unique method of printmaking that is rapidly gaining popularity in the art world. Invented in Japan in the 1980’s, the Risograph Duplicator was originally meant as an efficient alternative to office copy machines. In recent years, it has been embraced by the printmaking community for its rapid printing abilities, vibrant colors, and environmentally friendly soy-based inks Due to the slight transparency of the inks, unique color combinations, fun texture, and interesting overlaps are hallmarks of the medium.

SUPERNOVA opens Friday night from 7—10pm and will be on display all weekend from November 12—13th from 11am to 5pm.

ROSIE MAYER (she/her) and GRAY LAMB (they/she) became friends while teaching science classes to preteens in 2018. When lockdown hit, we began to daydream of a place where folks could come and make art in a low-pressure, community based environment, and gain access to equipment and skills that would otherwise be hard to come by. We opened Nova in fall of 2021 based on these principles, and are so excited to have fostered a thriving community of artists in our first year of operation! Thank you for believing in us, we love you. 💖
