A Love Letter to Los Angeles
MUSIC + FUNDRAISER | $10 // $15 | ALL AGES | Los Angeles is not hard to love. Growing up in its charm, and working as an intern at Junior High has opened my eyes to the beauty of the city and this organization. This is my love letter to Los Angeles: a night of celebration of everyone the city welcomes, accepts, and loves right back!
Affectionately curated by Yvalisse Ganzon, join in on the love-fest with…
musical performances by: DJ B Luz, Evian x Lucy, Portraits of Tracy, St. Panther, and SWSH

featuring ceramics, jewelry, and prints from the lovely and talented: @avajinying / @kojot.world, @marieannbyme, @superfluic, and @dumpocap

Tattooing for Beginners with stabalisim
WORKSHOP | $250 // $300 | 18+ | Ever wanted to learn the art of tattooing? Junior High resident artist JJ wants to show you the ropes! In this workshop we’re disrupting abusive tattoo apprenticeship traditions and breaking down the culture of gatekeeping in tattooing by allowing interested artists to experiment on fake skin.
When you purchase a ticket all supplies are included, you get to keep stencil with your designs, your fake skin, and a few more single use items! Pay $250 if you have your own tattoo machine, pay $300 if you want to borrow a machine for the workshop.
Class prep: Bring a few (2-5) designs that you drew or found online that you want to tattoo at the class. Bring the designs on printer paper, your phone/iPad, or whatever you have access to! We start by going over the drawing and stencil process then JJ will demonstrate setting up a tattoo machine and tattooing on fake skin. JJ will have a station for each attendee and will guide you through the whole tattooing process. Hopefully you’ll be able to fill your whole sheet of fake skin!
You must pre-order your ticket in advance, no tickets will be sold at the door.

Insula Collective BIPOC Support Group
COMMUNITY | $5—$20 | ALL AGES | RSVP HERE!
Insula Collective is a mental health initiative founded and led by Briana Boyd, a Certified Peer Support Specialist, dedicated to creating safe spaces for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and QTBIPOC (Queer and Trans BIPOC) individuals. BIPOC refers to historically marginalized racial and ethnic groups, while QTBIPOC includes those within these communities who also identify as queer or transgender. Insula Collective recognizes the unique mental health challenges these communities face and tailors its programming to meet their needs.
As a Peer Support Specialist, Briana uses her lived experiences with mental health challenges to offer guidance, empathy, and support to others facing similar struggles. Research shows that peer-led support groups improve mental health outcomes by fostering trust, community, and connection.
Our weekly support groups are held every Monday night at Junior High, a multipurpose gallery in Los Angeles focused on art, empathy, and intersectionality. Sessions are 1.5 hours long and limited to 15 participants. Each group begins with introductions and a check-in, followed by discussions on chosen topics such as boundaries, radical acceptance, and cultural identity.
To enhance our programming, we occasionally invite holistic practitioners to lead activities ranging from guided mindfulness practices to brief discussions on accessible coping techniques and somatic practices. These sessions provide attendees with a range of tools to support their mental health journey. Each group closes with a positive activity like gratitude practice to end on an uplifting note.
Insula Collective operates on a sliding scale, encouraging donations of $5, $10, or $20, but no one is turned away for lack of funds. Since launching in April, Briana has led over 30 support groups, and we aim to expand into retreats and wellness events for underrepresented populations. We are committed to making mental health care accessible, building a community of healing and empowerment.
Discussion begins just after 7 PM, with a 10-minute grace period for latecomers. While latecomers are welcome, it can disrupt the flow of sensitive conversations.

SUPERNOVA III: Riso Fantasy | Art Opening
GALLERY | $5-10 SUGGESTED DONATION | ALL AGES | Welcome to SUPERNOVA III: Riso Fantasy! This exhibition showcases Riso prints created by the students of the Nova Community Arts Risograph classes in 2024. These pieces were all printed at our studio, either during a class session, or afterwards using the techniques learned in class.
Risograph Printing is a unique method of printmaking that is rapidly gaining popularity in the art world. Invented in Japan in the 1980’s, the Risograph Duplicator was originally meant as an efficient alternative to office copy machines. In recent years, it has been embraced by the printmaking community for its rapid printing abilities, vibrant colors, and environmentally friendly soy-based inks.
The Riso uses a proprietary system of inks that allow for unusual colors beyond the usual CMYK. Due to the slight transparency of the inks, unique color combinations, fun texture, and interesting overlaps are hallmarks of the medium. Our studio has a RZ 390UI Risograph Duplicator, with 8 color drums - scarlet, fluorescent pink, fluorescent orange, sunflower, kelly green, mint, blue, and black.
Nova Community Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts education center located in Atwater Village, Los Angeles. We are committed to offering arts education, access to materials and equipment, and a platform of creative expression for the community, including students, professionals, and amateurs alike. We are dedicated to serving underrepresented populations in LA, and providing inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. We offer 4-week classes, single day workshops, open studio access, and guest programming at our studio five days a week. All levels of experience are welcome. Come hang out and make art!
