⤏ A PLAYLIST FOR EMBRACING CHANGE
⤏ CURATED BY
TALKER

“don’t you know, things can change
things’ll go your way, if you hold on for one more day”

—wilson phillips, “hold on”

What is the theme of your playlist?

Since March is Women's History Month I wanted to exclusively feature songs performed by women. But more so, I'm in the middle of a pretty transformational healing journey right now. Call it a saturn return, being in my late 20s, healing from heartbreak, whatever it is, the songs on this playlist represent transformation, forward motion, and reflection for me.

And yes, I included a song by P!nk because in my deepest hole of sadness in the last few months I could only listen to her. I saw this meme that was like, "You know someone is depressed not when they're listening to Elliot Smith, but when they're listening to Pitbull at 9AM" - that was P!nk for me.

We might have related a little too hard to TWENTYSOMETHING. What’s something you learned in your 20’s that you think everybody should know or not enough people know about?

Something that I've been reflecting on a lot recently, and something I've really had to learn throughout my 20s, is that we all have a lot of conflicting parts of our identity and a lot of conflicting things can be true at once. I used to view life a little bit more linear and like there were clear paths, clear answers, clear truths about what is or isn't. That I had to make these hard decisions and commit one way or the other. But I think true wisdom (not that I've really found it yet) comes from creating space for all possibilities, and not telling yourself you can't have something or experience something because there's also something else you want to do. We have so much time, so much untapped potential, and lately I've really been trying to live in that grey area and focus only on what feels right and in alignment with myself. I guess all this is to say: don't overthink it.

You’ve said that one of your goals with your music is to be completely honest, and vulnerable. Does honesty and vulnerability come easy to you? Or was that something you had to challenge yourself with?

Vulnerability comes easily to me, but honesty doesn't always. The two are pretty interlinked, but I think I've always been able to open up and connect with people on a deep level even while being a bit of a people pleaser and being afraid to have difficult conversations. It's something I've been challenging myself to do more of in the last year. Practicing asking for what I want, speaking up when something bothers me, and in turn, not hiding any details or fudging any little white lies in a story if I'm embarrassed, unsure, etc.

What is your favorite line from your upcoming album?

"My jealousy's a beauty queen taking you from me" - Easygoing

In three words how do you want people to feel when listening to your music?

Accepted, validated, unhinged

If you could feature one of your songs in a movie or tv show, which song and what movie/tv show would it be?

I think all of them would be fabulous for that (hello next hit soundtrack music supervisor) but I think TWENTYSOMETHING belongs in a coming of age movie. We basically did that for the music video. Or maybe it would fit in a sketch on I Think You Should Leave.

If you could collab with any musician (dead or alive) who would it be?

Sheryl Crow

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

If It Makes You Happy by Sheryl Crow (my icon, my everything)
